Charities to Hooters: Take your money and shove it

"I work with young people," SpotLight on Kids Managing Director Edie Baran said. "How could I possibly look them in the eye and try to teach them integrity, positive body image and self-confidence and then accept money from an organization like Hooters?" -- SpotLight on Kids, one of several organizations trying to rationalize why they refused donations from a Hooters Restaurant.

These people are hypocrites, and they need to remember this when I decline to donate to their cause. How could I possibly donate to an organization that puts their ideological political correctness views above their cause.

Also, there is nothing wrong with Hooters. I understand why certain people may choose to eat someplace else, but there is no reason to condemn people who are making an honest living. I also want to know how they think that teaching kids that it is wrong to take advantage of your good looks, creates a positive body image. Especially considering SpotLight on Kids centers on acting and stage performance. Look at any TV show and you'll see that acting ability is usually secondary to looking good.

I'm with you on this one. Although, I think I can go along with ECHO (a church-sponsored food bank) refusing the money; to me that would be no different from a Catholic charity refusing money from an abortion clinic. But the other groups have no excuse.

I stopped giving money to United Way when they stopped sponsoring the Boy Scouts (although the UW chapter here has gone against the national UW on this point, so I do give money to them).

Did you notice that the Cystic Fibrosis group accpted Hooter's donation? I'm thinking of sending them a check right now.

I agree with you, if for no other reason than I have a couple of friends who enjoy trying to drag me to Hooters at every oppertunity. Moreover, these aren't strip clubs, they're just hedonistic and tacky. I can't concieve of someone thinking that their money is somehow irredeemably tainted.

If Hooters has gone out of their way to raise money to help children.....who the hell are those pious fuckwits to deny the children that help?

Pucker-butts. They need to pull their heads out and take a look around at the real world and be grateful that their charity was the beneficiary of that generosity. It's about the KIDS....not the damn adults
