The pleasure police are even trying to kill Halloween. What is wrong with these people?? Do they see people having fun and purposely try to spoil it?? I mean you can find fault with just about anything if you look hard enough!
I think that there is a special place in hell for these killjoys. (Right next to idiots that drive too slow in the fast lane.)
Take Halloween away. Something else will end up replacing it.
Can't you just see people taking away Halloween....then, Thanksgiving, Flag Day, Independence Day, Christmas(!), New Year's Day, but....they'll leave Martin Luther King, Jr. day, Colombus Day, etc.
Posted by: Da Goddess at October 31, 2002 3:42 PMWhat? They'd leave a holiday to celebrate the non-discovery of a rich land inhabited by peaceful cultures which co-existed with their envionment by a greedy, plundering, raping, enslaving European?
I think Columbus Day would be the next holiday to get the axe.
Posted by: Steve at October 31, 2002 4:53 PMActually, Columbus Day will never be taken away, for one specific reason.
Unions.
If you think the labor unions are going to let them take away one of their days off, you've got another thing coming.
Posted by: Ravenwood at October 31, 2002 5:52 PMRavenwood, they might keep the holiday for the unions, but they'd change the name to "Multicultural Day" or something equally smarmy. There are already protest marches every Columbus Day, I don't know how much longer it can hold out.
Posted by: Steve at October 31, 2002 6:23 PMThat's what we celebrated at the Montessori school a million years ago. Seriously. When I was working as a teaching assistant, we celebrated CULTURAL HERITAGE DAY. Screw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! We made families go out and buy EXPENSIVE stuff for their kids!
