Apparently a Ravenwood's Universe Op-Ed piece from last month about a city wide Pit Bull ban is getting some results. The Mansfield City Council is going to revisit the Pit Bull ban, after hearing from a multitude of concerned dog owners. While the ban has been in place for 15 years, it was just last month that the Dog Warden announced a crack down. Obviously this raises a concern for owners of Dobermans, Rottweilers, and other breeds of dogs that could be similarly classified as vicious, and banned.
I'm quite happy that so many people read my story, and reacted positively. I hope that the City Council will come to their senses and ban the idiot owners of the problem dogs, and not the entire breed of dogs itself.
Breed-specific laws have always been annoying, and there's nothing to justify them except fear and misinformation, neither of which tends to enhance the legislative process.
Besides, I've known too many Rottweilers and such who were gentle as kittens - unless, of course, you threatened their master.
I believe that he law shouldn't ban a certain breed of dog becfause of individuals that can not properly take care of their dog. I own an American Pit Bull Terrier and it is as noce a dog as any other breed. The secret is to socialize the dog when he is a puppy and have it go to training classes. My Pit is very friendly with children and other dogs as well. Thank you for listening to my opinion. I hope the law will make the right choice.
