Happy Birthday to Strom Thurmond, who turns 100 today.
His 100th birthday is a giant 'kiss my wrinkled ass', to all those loving Democrats, who put on the "Strom Thurmond Death Watch" in 2000, hoping to gain control of the Senate.
Not to mention that Thurmond was one of the first Southern Democrats to migrate to the Other Side. Loudly. (In 1948, he ran for President on the Dixiecrat ticket; he returned to the fold circa 1952, but departed for the GOP in 1964, where he's been ever since.)

Posted by: The Rust One at December 5, 2002 3:52 PMWho said anything about Robert Byrd?!?
And since you obviously failed either history or math, slavery ended more than 100 years ago.
Also, while Thurmond did oppose desegregation, that is hardly an endorsement of slavery. Thurmond should be commended for changing with the times. After all, he was one of the first southern lawmakers to hire black staffers and support blacks for federal judgeships.

Pity about Trent Lott. :)
