An open letter to NeptuneApollo:
Dear Thief,
Hotlinking to my images is stealing! If you want an image, download it and upload it on your own server. DO NOT STEAL MY BANDWIDTH!
Regards,
The Management
UPDATE: I decided to take Michele's advice. The image is not for the faint hearted.
When someone does that and won't change it, just change the image to something that will be sure to make them take it down.
For instance, when a Nirvana message board was deep linking some images of mine and would not cease and desist, I immediately replaced all the images with the skankiest picture of Courtney Love that I could find.
It did the trick.
Posted by: michele at January 7, 2003 9:45 PMThanks for the advice. That will be Plan B.
Plan A was to change the image to a weenie message, and send a cordial notice to the forum moderator. I'll wait and see how it goes before I try your napalm approach.
Posted by: Ravenwood at January 7, 2003 9:49 PMBetter yet, I could change the image to the DeCSS code and then sick the MPAA/RIAA on them..
SORRY!!! i didnt know it took bandwith.(dont know THAT much about computers)
the admin took it off, but im sorry i didnt know it would cause problems on your website, i just thought it was a cool picture and i posted it on the board. PLEASE FORGIVE.
SORRY! SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY I LIKE YOUR SITE SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY!
Ok, so maybe I over-reacted just a bit. As a webmaster, we pay for bandwidth, and hotlinking images uses some of that bandwidth. I don't have any problem with people taking images and using them for something else, but I do ask that they download them and host them on their own server.
Apology accepted, no hard feelings.
