Check out this inaccurate report from Fox News on the Georgia flag debate:
They fear that if the decision is left up to the public, the Confederate battle flag, sometimes called the "Southern Cross", will once again be on Georgia's flag, as it was from 1956 until 2001.Why do I seem to be the only one pointing out that the Confederate battle flag is on the current Georgia flag?
Take a look for yourself if you don't believe me.
Presumably on the theory that if the battle flag were on the Georgia flag, the NAACP would be complaining about it; hence, since the NAACP isn't complaining, the battle flag isn't there.
Don't you love the contrapositive? :)
Either that or the flag is so damn ugly that nobody's looked hard enough to notice the Southern Cross on it.
Posted by: Chris Lawrence at April 26, 2003 3:17 AMWhen you posted your comment about the flag of Georgia on April 25th the flag you link to was indeed the "current" flag. However, a new flag design was already in the works and was officially adopted just two weeks later on May 8th. The new flag does NOT contain any Confederate emblem and has the good fortune to not look ass-ugly like the previous "compromise" flag.
Posted by: Sallie at October 10, 2003 9:11 AMI was well aware of the changes in the works. I was trying to point out the hypocrisy of those wanting to keep the "current flag" (aka the Barne's flag) because it was less offensive than the new "stars and bars" Georgia flag. The "compromise" flag unilaterally thrust upon Georgians by ex-gov. Roy Barnes indeed had the southern cross on it, whereas the new "stars and bars" flag does not.
there ain't a damn thing wrong with our old flag, just people wanting to start shit and they feel good because they actually did. anyway they have a free country and get to do anything they want to so why do they worry about the damn flag.
