Although the 2001 Georgia "Barnes" Flag is flying for the last time, neither Georgia flaggots nor anti-flaggots seem to be pleased. As a former Georgian, I am extremely pleased, if for no other reason to stick it to ex-Governor Barnes. Roy Barnes was like the Bill Campbell of Governors, and this just adds to the pleasure of seeing his surprise defeat in 2002.
I'm also pleased to see a media outlet finally recognize the fact that the "Barnes" flag also featured the 'controversial' St. Andrews Cross. The AJC reports:
The Barnes flag had put the controversial image at the bottom of the flag among other flag icons. To me, the flaggots all seemed like hillbilly rednecks for putting the flag at the top of their agenda, while anti-flaggots seemed like hypocrites for wanting to keep the "Barnes" flag because it's Confederate Battle Flag emblem was somehow magically non-offensive.
By the way, does anyone know if, during all the flag commotion, Georgia ever bothered to pass a freakin' budget?
Who cares about a budget? All us toothless, ignert rednecks in Georgia EVER gave a shit about was our flag.
The new one is gooder than the old one.
What is a "budget" anyway?

I like the stars and bars - think it is an excellent compromise and sure as hell beats that blue rag that Barnes forced down out throats (along with a host of other garbage that - as a teacher - has made my life a living hell). And therein lies my displeasure - King Roy made it SOP to ignore the wishes of the voters of the state of Georgia - particularly those outside of the state of Atlanta. Perdue said that not only would he listen to the voters, but act on their recommendations (going so far as to promise a vote that would include the 56 flag).
Right now, I'm pretty disgusted with the whole bunch in Atlanta - they listened to outside interests, made backroom deals, and allowed the politicians to screw us royally.
At least with Barnes you knew you better have condoms and "Wet" when he made promises.
