Visitors to North Carolina, and residents of neighboring states will be happy to know that North Carolina passed a CCW reciprocity bill this weekend. That means that concealed carry permit holders of states that recognize North Carolina's permit will automatically gain reciprocity. VCDL notes that the law doesn't kick in for 60 days, so if you are traveling to North Carolina, you need to make sure that your state's permit is recognized there. Packing.org is a good reference, but you should always check with the state Attorney General or police department to be sure.
As a resident of Virginia, I know I'll feel safer when I go to North Carolina, now.
