"Martin Luther King would have done the same thing." -- Ron Walters, director of the African American Leadership Institute at the University of Maryland, suggesting that Dr. King would perform corporate shakedowns and take protection money the same way that Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow/PUSH coalition does.
I find the notion offensive.

King is being economized. People want to see what they can get for it. There's another idea in King that some people might hear but they're not going to win this one. If you didn't actually know King as a friend it's really only symbolic either way. So you agree with King and they don't: it doesn't matter. Put the idea forward on your own, whatever it is.
I would say it relates to forgiveness in general as a way to move on. If you can't start over at every instant, what's the point. Everything becomes a curse.
Not forgetting, but rather a mysterious acting on the past, repeating it and purifying it. King maybe got that from Tillich.
