Alaska's "Vermont-style" deregulated concealed carry law is about to go into effect. The law basically gets rid of the taxes and regulation of the concealed carry permitting process. What used to cost about $200 will now cost nothing, and some people aren't very happy about it.
When a new state law goes into effect Sept. 9, Alaskans no longer will need a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but local law enforcement officers and gun safety instructors have some misgivings about the new freedom.Who the hell cares what gun safety instructors think? Well no shit firearms instructors are going to be upset that the firearms instruction requirement has been removed. Why does the media consider that news, and why do they give them a mention in the first and second paragraph?"Carrying a concealed weapon is not just strapping on a gun," said Rod Christopher, owner of the Peninsula Weapons Academy and Nordic Trading and Loan in Soldotna, who has been teaching weapons safety for 20 years.
"You carry a lot of responsibility with it," he said.
I will also point out that this is not a "new freedom", but a restoration of freedom.
