I'm amazed at how many comments this post is gathering. The current count is 27 (which is a lot for this site), and these guys are writing books. I guess that is a testiment to Lope's provacative topic.
Lope does know how to stir the emotional pot. LOL, Now he seems to be sitting back, probably widely grinning, watching us drown in our own juices.

The poster of the "main" message receives in email each and every response to the "main" message.
Each day I've had, in my personal Outlook Express email box, the exchanges between you and Lee. I've enjoyed reading them, in part for what they posit but even more so for the tone they represent - and what this says about each writer.
I have found your writings to be reasonable, thought-out and aimed at reaching consensus. If this is representative of "leftist" idealogy, we could all use some more.
I plan on replying once more to Lee and once more to Ravnwood in response to his late remarks about Gen. Clark. While I enjoy the back and forth of debate, for me time between exchanges encourages thoughtfulness and discourages my natural instincts to "flame".
In related news, I am heartened by Gen. Clark's announcement that he is a Democrat. It will not be long now before he is a candidate for President.
(For the record, *I am not a Democrat but if Gen. Clark runs for President, I will register as a Democrat and actively work on the local campaign to put him in office.)

Posted by: Lope at September 4, 2003 9:37 PMLope, thank you for your very kind words. However regarding your following statement:
"(For the record, *I am not a Democrat but if Gen. Clark runs for President, I will register as a Democrat and actively work on the local campaign to put him in office.)"
As much as I hope that Clark runs for the President of the US, and I hereby vow to work to that end, I don't know if I can bring myself to actually register as a Democrat as I dislike that party nearly as much as I dislike the views of the ultra right wing.
Regarding Lee Dise: It seems to me that he is a decent guy who just thinks differently than you and I. I hoped that Lee and I could find that perfect place in the moment, as I and a few of my ultra right wing life long friends have done, that is, that we could find the humor to laugh at each other and get on with our lives.
I still suspect that such a thing is possible.
