Scott Norvell at Tongue Tied reports that England has figured out an innovative way to keep students from failing.
Students in England will no longer 'fail' national standardized tests under new guidelines issued by the government, reports the Lincolnshire Echo -- they will instead get an 'N' grade for 'Nearly.'This must be some sort of metric grading system. How long before N stands for nincompoop?People who grade tests have also been instructed to stop marking math questions as right or wrong, but instead use the terms 'creditworthy' or 'not creditworthy.'

Orwell just missed by a few decades.
Posted by: Kevin Baker at September 25, 2003 10:12 AMIt would be one thing if no one else in society had to suffer the consequences of "public" (government) education, but what happens to the rest of us if people who can pass with "N" get to move on to engineering school and land jobs building bridges and other infrastructure? It's one thing for me to homeschool or pay for private school for my own child, but what if someone I love or myself dies because political fashion rules the day? Who do I go to for justice?

And another thing, with all these "Right To Know" laws and labeling requirements why not just take these kids and tatoo "Stupid" on their foreheads so we'll know with whom we're dealing.
