What about those sweatshirts with the sleeves cut out, like Flashdance. A little bit of imagery to go with your legwarmers.

Posted by: hln at October 8, 2003 8:23 AMHey... I remember having to place an order (and pay a deposit of two bucks*) for the new Beatles album to be sure of getting one when it was released.
Record-store clerks were popular guys, back in the 1960s.
(*Two bucks doesn't sound like much: but it was 50% of the retail price back then.)

Me: Yep, in aluminum trays no less.
You: Joe Camel and the Marlboro Man
Me: The dancing Old Gold cig pack and the Dutch Masters
You: TV Antennas

You: Leg warmers
Me: I thought those were ear muffs.
You: The Simpsons were just cartoon shorts on the Tracey Ullman Show
Me: Rocky and Bullwinkle in prime time.
Things I remember:
1.The adults stuck together; they might disagree among themselves, but they didn't allow children to divide them.
2.A strict separation between adult and juvenile activities and where they took place; we didn't expect the entire nation to be fit for kindergarteners at all times.
3.Respect and tolerance for each other's choices, including smokers'. Drug prohibition was a terrible exception to this, which legitimized the the war on tobacco. The precedent will soon be extended to other categories of personal choice.
4.An understanding that good manners were a sign of respect for one another, not an attempt to be snotty and superior. Bad manners were not rewarded.
5.People minding their own business. Nowadays disrespectful interference in other people's lives is considered to be benign activism.
