Once again, I am pleading with bloggers to code their sites so that they do not publicize email addresses. In case you didn't notice, while the comments section on this site asks for an email address (so that I can reply) it is never ever published to the website. In fact, I have diligently removed all email addresses from this site, and even make use of a feedback form rather than publish my own address. The only place I ever put my email address is in people's comments section, and because of that, I have once again started getting "business proposals" from Nigeria.
I am considering a personal boycott on comments on web sites that do not take similar measures. Before I take it that far, however, I will once again ask system operators to remove public email addresses from their comment pages. For the good of us all.
OK ... so how do I tweek pMachine so spammers can't collect them?
Posted by: Bill Dennis at January 14, 2004 12:15 PMMy email address is all over the universe and I don't get much spam, maybe a hundred messages a day is all; probably a thousand before the spam filters get to it. It's sort of entertaining, looking for the world's most hopeless spam subject field, eg. ``need to loose wait'' or ``hi remember me ukkduglqCdww1qhv@''
Real problems are HD crashes or the telephone going dead for the day.

Allright! A fellow pMachine user. pMachine gives the person commenting on your site the ability to disable the viewing of his or her email address. However, if you want to go a step further and completely disable the showing of ones email address, you can do that by editing the template for the comments page. So I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I'm e-mail safe. Promise.

Posted by: Scott Chaffin at January 15, 2004 6:32 PMI just edited my comment template to never publish the email address. The email comes to my inbox so that I can reply, however it never even makes it to the comment pages.
