Traffic O' Plenty

An obscure, badly photoshopped picture.

A single, one line post with a fortuitous headline... written way back in October.

A Drudge Report about John Kerry and an unnamed intern.

#3 on Google.

#4 on AOL.

Hotlinks from at least 16 22 different newsgroups.

Instalanche (another hotlink, sigh.)

And 20000 of visitors in only a few hours.

Nothing like getting almost two months worth of traffic in one day.

Nice to see you're finally getting the attention you deserve. Congratulations.

You think it's funny to redirect people to that sick image? You think only those stealing your bandwidth will have to suffer?

Well, someone linked to it on a forum read by hundreds of people every day, including children. The mature thing would have been to remove the picture. I guess that was beyond you.

Posted by: Stratics mod at February 13, 2004 5:32 PM

Boo hoo hoo. You saw a nasty picture because someone was stealing my bandwidth boo hoo hoo.

Why don't you do something productive like yell at the dolt who hotlinked my site in the first place. Better yet, scream at the forum moderator for not removing it expeditiously.

Your whining is lost on me. You think I feel sorry for a thief that breaks into my home and stubs his toe?

Because of that damned photo, I spent 20% of my bandwidth in a single day. Who knows what today brings. It is not yet the middle of the month and I'm already more than 50% over budget and climbing.

I'll make a deal with you. I'll restore the image if you pay my hosting fees this month. If you aren't up for it than shut your pie whole.

As somebody who innocently stumbled across your disgusting porn, I popped in here to register my disgust. I can see from your other comments you're not going to be impressed, so I'll save my breath.

Stratics had the picture removed within 10 minutes, but dozens of people saw it within that time, including me, a born again Christian who had no idea people would take such disgusting photos. For you to punish *me* for reading a 3rd party forum that contained a link from a 4th party I didn't even know is just flat out wrong.

If you're concerned at all, just replace it with a red X or something. I'm sorry you had bandwidth stolen, but I shouldn't have to view filth because of it.

Posted by: Innocent Reader at February 13, 2004 6:46 PM

Wow, can you be any more childish about this? Someone stole your picture, so thousands of people have to be subjected to your filth. Great logic!

Seriously man, grow up. Someone linked to your picture. Happens all the time. That doesn't give you the right to do what you did. In fact, it's against the law to knowingly put such a picture in a place where children could view it without a disclaimer. Maybe we should look into that...

Posted by: Stratics Moderator at February 13, 2004 7:07 PM

Stratics you just don't get it. I didn't redirect anyone. I didn't post any picture any where. I have it stored on MY server, and someone else linked to it. If you don't like it, go bug him and leave me alone.

As for legalities, if you think I broke the law call the police.

Posted by: Ravenwood at February 13, 2004 9:01 PM

The innocent "I didn't do it" doesn't cut it. *You* put that disgusting porn there so that innocent people would see it, knowing somebody was linking to your images.

What the bandwidth-stealer did was bad, sure. What you did was hideous.

Posted by: Innocent Reader at February 13, 2004 9:11 PM

Bite me.

Posted by: Ravenwood at February 13, 2004 9:20 PM

Ravenwood,

These people don't get it. They don't care that your bandwidth was ate up by that forum. How about this you asshats: instruct your users on hotlinking and why it's wrong, then maybe you won't get pics like that. EVERYONE knows that hotlinking is stealing. Get over yourselves.

Oops, my other posting should have went in this topic, oh well. Regulars will know where it should be placed.

Posted by: Rhett at February 14, 2004 2:22 AM

Doesn't you host's control panel allow you to prevent hotlinking? THAT'S the solution.
