Maryland, which has some of the toughest gun laws in the United States, is actually considering becoming a shall issue state. If the bill passes (a huge IF), Marylanders will be able to apply for and receive concealed carry permits. Maryland currently only issues gun permits to friends of politicians and celebrities.
Best of luck to Maryland! This is unalloyed good news.
I have a number of Marylanders as friends and working colleagues. All of them are the salt of the Earth -- and you should have seen the terror they labored under when the snipers were rampaging their state.
Of course, it didn't make me feel terrific about having to drive down there in my white minivan, but then, I got to go home to Long Island.

Pardon me if I'm underwhelmed. Maryland's present "assault weapon ban" hijinks have pretty much completely soured me on that state.

Posted by: Rhett at February 14, 2004 8:27 PMThis'll die in the House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Frosh - one of the biggest anti-2nd-ammendment reps. Some form of this bill's been presented annually for at least the last five years. It keeps gathering sponsors, but I still give it just slightly more than a snowball's chance in hell of making it out of committee.
