Louisiana to crack down on low-rider pants

iconFox (search) News reports that Louisiana is considering banning those sexy low-rider jeans.

State Rep. Derrick Shepherd said he filed the bill because he was tired of catching glimpses of boxer shorts and G-strings over the lowered belt lines of young adults.

The bill would punish anyone caught wearing low-riding pants with a fine of as much as $500 or as many as six months in jail, or both.

I guess throwing young women in jail for 6 months is much better than having them wander the streets with the tops of their underwear hanging out. This is just what America needs. Rather than fighting terrorism, we'll have G-string police chasing down sexy young girls and holding them criminally liable for daring to show too much skin. If these bureaucrats really want to do some good, they'll fine overweight plumbers and TV repairmen who show too much ass-crack.

Remember, it was a woman with the top of her underwear hanging out that got Slick Willie in so much hot water.

The problem isn't the "sexy young girls" Ravenwood, it's the ones who shouldn't be caught dead in hip-huggers and thongs. That's what's criminal. ;-)

I don't think any has the right to say what anyone wears! What kind of crap law are they gonna make up next? How about, You can't drive that kind of car here in this state! Or, Everyone has to have their hair cut the same way! God for bid anyone has their own opinions anymore. I am a 35 year old mother of 5. AND YES I AM MARRIED! Have been for 15 years now. I have 3 daughters and 2 sons. They have the right to choose what they wear to a point. We are talking about LOW-RISE jeans not falling off, below the butt pants. What's wrong with showing off the mid drift? I say anyone offended by it is only offended because they don't have the mid drift to show!!! I understand making it a dress code at schools, but out in public? This is so wrong. I will NEVER come to LOUISIANA again if this becomes a law!
State Rep. Derrick Shepherd needs to GET A LIFE!
GET CLUE! and get the hell out of everyones business!!!

Wow, some people here have taken this bill out of context. It doesn't say GAP can't sell low-rise jeans; it says you can't walk around with your thong sticking out (a trend started, I believe, by Britney Spears, a Louisianian) or your genitals showing. By the same reasoning, it's illegal to be in public in the nude.
This bill is never going to make. If by a miracle it gets passed, it wil get shot down because it's pretty much unconstitutional, not to mention almost unenforceable. Those of us here in "the great state of Louisiana" find it laughable, just one more reason why Louisiana has a bad reputation -- Did you hear neither the bill to ban Hog-Dog Rodeos (dogs pitted against feral hogs) and the one to ban cockfighting made it out of committee?
