"Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids - $500 sneakers for what? And won't spend $200 for 'Hooked on Phonics.' They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. ... You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth!" -- Comedian Bill Cosby.
Brilliant! A-MEN!
Now re-read the piece substituting "Howard Stern" for "Bill Cosby". You think Stern wouldn't be run out of town by now, with the NAACP and Jesse Jackson calling for his head?
Nope...no double standards here.
Posted by: Bruce at May 20, 2004 12:12 PMAh those kids, with the hippin' and the hoppin' and the bippin' and the boppin'. Bill Cosby is pretty cool.
Posted by: Dave The Australian at May 22, 2004 5:23 AMActually, the president of Howard University and a high official in the NAACP were at the function where Cosby made that comment... needless to say, they were furious; the only difference now is that people are calling Cosby a traitor to his race, instead of just "racist" if it had been Stern making the comments. Crazy society, eh?
Posted by: Will at May 22, 2004 9:25 PMI thought Hannity's insight was pretty good. He pointed out that Cosby's comments were directed at "lower economic people", and people just assumed he meant blacks.
Posted by: Ravenwood at May 24, 2004 4:31 PMInterestingly enough our youth and lower economic folks in this world don't speak correct english. Why get so angry at the facts. It's a hint to get into those areas and target youth so it can stop. We need a better school system not just in the upper and middle class areas but the same system in the lower class. We need to get back to no child left behind...and remember that means preparing him/her for life in the world not just in the hood.
