My webhost provider is doing some maintenance this weekend, which is not at all unusual. What was interesting, was this part of their notification email.
On July 9th at 6pm Central standard time we will be moving all accounts located on the server... We ask all clients not to update their website between July 9th at 6pm Central standard time and July 10th 6pm eastern standard time. So, on July 9th at 6 PM CST, (which is actually 7 PM CDT) the server will be moved and DNS will be pushed. If I make any updates to the site prior to July 10th 6 PM EST (which is actually 7 PM here in the Washington D.C. area, but still 6 PM CDT), I might lose those changes when they restore the server backup to the new server. I think I understand.
It seems pretty confusing; enough for me to complain. But in response to my query, their support staff simply sent me this link. Thanks guys.
lol
Posted by: Mays at July 6, 2004 11:58 AMBack when I was on gloint.com, Manny sent me an email saying he was going to be doing server maintenance. He muttered something about anything posted within a week of the change not being carried over. WTF? Who backs up a site a week in advance of downtime? You do it just before you begin.
I lost my brilliant Python "Bring Out Your Dead" post that nabbed an Instalanche.
I say anyone who can't manage backups and server downtime satisfactorily shouldn't be hosting in the first place.
Now, what was it you were talking about?
