What media bias?

iconCNN/Money just cannot let themselves report any good economic news, can they?

The title of the article says "Jobless claims drop much more than expected". However, the headline was truncated to read simply: "Jobless claims drop" and a sub-headline was apparently added to temper the good news: "Report shows sharp drop in those filing for benefits, but seasonal factors distorted results."

Meanwhile economists, who couldn't predict a sunrise, are defiant. In response to getting it wrong this week, Mark Vitner, an economist at Wachovia Securities says: "This won't hold up. This (drop) really shouldn't have been unexpected."

Yet for some reason it was. Economists are starting to rank right up there with lawyers and politicians on the lack of credibility scale.
