Country singer Linda Ronstadt praised propagandist Michael Moore as a "great American patriot" and "someone who is spreading the truth." Her words had predictable results with the conservative country music base.
Ronstadt's comments drew loud boos and some of the 4,500 people in attendance stormed out of the theater. People also tore down concert posters and tossed cocktails into the air.Timmins also said Ronstadt will not be welcome back at the property, and kudos for him in listening to his customers."It was a very ugly scene," Aladdin President Bill Timmins told The Associated Press. "She praised him and all of a sudden all bedlam broke loose."
Timmins, who is British and was watching the show, decided Ronstadt had to go - for good. Timmins said he didn't allow Ronstadt back in her luxury suite and she was escorted off the property.
This happened just days after Whoopi Goldberg got similar treatment from her employer, Slim-Fast, over her anti-Bush tirade.
Undoubtedly the useful fools will be screaming censorship, as if the VRWC has that long of reach or President Bush himself ordered the President of Alladin Casino to fire Ronstadt.

Now, I like Linda Ronstadt. I've liked her for a long time. I will continue to like her.....As a singer. For political thought and commentary I go elsewhere.
There is no First Amendment issue here, as it doesn't apply. The Alladin Casino is not the federal government. I'm saddened that Linda got canned, but that is one of the risks you take when you inject your political views into a venue where people have paid good money to hear you SING.
Nuff said.

Posted by: Rich at July 20, 2004 8:25 AMAt least you get it. Many others won't, and will whine about censorship.
While I have Hollywood stars that I dislike because of their political interjections, I don't make it a habit of "boycotting" anyone. If you start boycotting movie stars and musicians who disagree with me politically, I'm not going to be watching or listening to much.
Posted by: Ravenwood at July 20, 2004 8:50 AMThis is where I'm conficted. I really hate people who support the baseless left wing side and try to boycott whenever I can. Mostly because I don't like my money supporting those ideals nor supporting someone so supportive of such lies and bullshit. But like R. said, doing so and you won't find much entertainment out in this world.
Oh well, not going to the movies and limiting myself on rentals and occasional video purchases should limit the support.
Posted by: Rhett at July 20, 2004 3:17 PMActually, I do boycott one entertainer. I refuse to spend any money or do anything in regard to Jane Fonda. To me she is a non-person.
Others can do what they like, but with me, it's a personal thing.
