In Florida, several advocacy groups are campaigning to restore the voting rights of convicted felons. No matter which side of the debate you take, you must admit that this is pretty telling:
According to Chris Uggen, a sociologist at the University of Minnesota, the outcome of the 2000 election would have been different had the disenfranchised felons been allowed to vote. In a 2002 study, he concluded that had 600,000 disenfranchised felons voted, Gore would have won Florida by 40,000 to 80,000 votes.I can see the posters now: Felons for
I'm reminded of when the Simpsons character Sideshow Bob was being hauled off to jail: "I'll be back. You can't keep the Democrats out of the White House forever. And when they get in, I'm back on the streets, with all my criminal buddys! *Maniacal laughter*"
If these people really want representation, they should just move to Maine.
