A Florida court unilaterally ruled that Governor Jeb Bush's school voucher program violates a provision of the Florida state constitution that clearly states poor, inner-city kids must remain trapped in failing schools. The ruling comes in spite of a 2002 ruling by the United States Supreme Court that found that voucher programs did not violate the U.S. Constitution.
The usual suspects (teachers unions and race warlords at the NAACP) have fought the law since it was enacted in 1999. They claim that the voucher program could destroy the government's stranglehold on edumacation, and give poor and minority students a way out of the ghetto.
