"The truth, which is what elections are all about, is that the tax burden of the middle class has gone up while the tax burden of the middle class has gone down." -- John Kerry, quoted by the Associated Press, August 25, 2004.

It's true! I saw the OMB report! The percentage of the tax burden borne by the middle class has gone up, but the actual dollar expenditure on taxes by the middle class has gone down!
Does Kerry do nuance, or what?

That's NOT what the quote says.... it says "burden" twice, not expenditure... don't give Kerry too much credit for the nuance of it... although, I'm quite certain it's an editorial error... I'm pretty sure that second "middle class" should be "upper class"... it's the same drum Kerry's been beating. He may have misspoke, though, I can't find another source one way or the other.... I REALLY wish they would publish their speech transcripts.
