Here are the first pictures from the anti-Bush protests at the Republican National Convention.
Note the lack of body armor on the policeman.
So far, the Republicans seem to be handling the protests pretty well. Contrast this with photos from the protests at the DNC Convention in Boston.

No surprise there; those are NEW YORK cops. I think they call a few hundred thousand angry crazy people "rush hour".
On the other hand, maybe they know the worthless hippies are all unarmed and unmuscled. That might fly - the protestors in Boston were likely Republicans who all believe in CCW and working for a living. Thus the body armor? Could be.

BTW, there is a big anti-corporate media protest Wednesday (today) at 7PM. Meet in midtown (details at http://www.fair.org/events.html). This is a mature, peaceful event, sponsored by FAIR, not a bandana-wearing stupid kids event like the nonsense near Union Square last night.
