With stories like this, there's no wonder why people have such a misunderstanding about guns.
It's an all-too-realistic lesson in gun safety. An Indiana coroner is recovering from a leg wound after accidentally shooting himself.First of all, guns don't just go off. I would bet that the gun just "went off" because he had his finger on the trigger; a clear violation of gun safety rules. Second, he could only be shot in the leg because he wasn't pointing the gun in a safe direction; another clear violation of gun safety rules.Monroe County Coroner David Toumey says he was demonstrating gun safety late one night last week at a boat ramp, when the gun went off.
He tells The Herald-Times as he was checking to make sure the gun was unloaded, it fired. The local sheriff's office hasn't released details of the accident, saying a deputy has yet to file a report.
"Accidents" like this are 100% preventable, and this guy should be required to attend a gun safety course rather than teaching one ad hoc.

If read the IndyStar version instead of the truncated AP version, you'll see that this jackass was "demonstrating gun safety" at 11 PM on a boat ramp.
I'm sure there was no alcohol involved at all.
