This is terrible news:
Now you see it. Soon you won't. In a trend sure to be a relief to some and a disappointment to others, women will cover up instead of baring it all next season as the "slutwear" look comes to an end.Low-rise jeans and thongs are on the way out. No more cute girls walking through the mall with their ass hanging out. No more bare midriffs and skimpy tops.
In recent seasons, fashion has been filled with skimpy tops exposing midriffs, cleavage-revealing necklines and jeans slung so low that precious little was left to the imagination -- looks impossible to avoid on such pop icons as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.Just shoot me now. This season, blousy linen took the place of sheer chiffon, while shades of white chased away an edgier black. Necklines were up, while hemlines were hovering down at the knee.
"It's very ladylike. It's not jump-into-bed fashion," Deeny said of the new look on runways as established powerhouses to new designers trotted out more fabric and less skin than in seasons past.
I think I'm going to be sick.

We might be okay.

Posted by: mikem at September 17, 2004 1:37 PMModest fashion can be attractive, if it's feminine rather than mannish.
Women have always chosen their clothing with the attitudes and reactions of men in mind. Therefore, if women generally consider this new/old direction to be beneficial to their relations with men, they'll accept it; otherwise, they'll reject it.
As with so many other developments, we shall see.
Apparently it's just me, but I never found the slutty look to be all that appealing. Low-rider jeans can make even a skinny girl look kinda wide in the hips, and as a result, I never could figure out why so many girls/women liked wearing them. They spend so much time obsessing about looking fat, then proceed to wear pants that make them appear to be just that.
This is probably all for the better anyhow. Maybe we've seen the last of Paris Hilton's painfully-long 15-minutes of fame.
Seriously, her fame is based only on being born rich and making an X-rated home video. Is sure as hell wasn't based on looks or any measurable talent.

Posted by: Ravenwood at September 17, 2004 4:55 PMWhat Roger said. Slut fashion is horrible.
