So many stupid Americans, too few betters to rule us.
Posted by: Brian J. at November 4, 2004 6:53 AMA little context would be good here. It should pointed out that the vast majority of red areas have few people residing in them. Many of the blue areas are heavily populated. If you're trying to make the point that America went overwhelmingly for Bush, this is somewhat disingenuous.

Posted by: Mays at November 4, 2004 8:44 AMHere is a telling statistic...
Population (2003) of counties won:
Bush 150.9 million
Kerry 103.6 million
And here is a link to another (more complete) map.

Do they not have counties in Alaska?
Posted by: Mays at November 4, 2004 11:46 AMNo.

Posted by: Ravenwood at November 4, 2004 11:56 AMUnfortunately, the fact of the matter is that we are quite divided, and geographically. If you live in a metropolitan area (the larger, the more pronounced this is) the more likely you are to be "blue." If you live in the suburbs or more rural areas (and the more rural, the more pronounced this is) the more likely you are to be "red."
Why is it that city-dwellers trend socially liberal/left and the majority of everyone else does not? Does high population density warp the human mind? Does rural living?
What is it (from my perspective) that makes the majority of urban dwellers disconnect from reality?
