The votes have been counted in the state of Washington. The votes have also been recounted. With almost 900,000 votes cast, Republican Dino Rossi won by a mere 42 votes. Winning both counts, the vote totals changed just 0.008%.
But rather than concede defeat, Washington Democrats are demanding yet another recount.
Democrats show their impotence while they desperately try to maintain an election.
Posted by: Steve Scudder at December 2, 2004 6:56 AMGranted he's a Republican, the Senator that wrote the op-ed piece did a good job explaining that the two recounts were fair and extremely accurate. (Hence the miniscule change from one to the next.)
What the Dems are saying by demanding a third recount is that they don't care about the count or the will of the voters, just about the results.
Posted by: Ravenwood at December 2, 2004 7:47 AMLiken this to the trial lawyer approach: keep hacking away at it, truth-be-damned until you get the result that you desire.
Posted by: Steve Scudder at December 2, 2004 7:51 AMWhat happens when the 15th recount shows the Democrats winning? Are we to assume that somehow the recounts are getting more accurate each time, so the last one is always the most meaningful? This is absurd. If the recount is necessarily more accurate than the original count, why are we still counting the votes by any method other than the one employed by the recount process?
The truth is, a recount is just as likely to be flawed as the original count, and each successive recount is just as flawed as the one before. You are correct - they don't care about anything but the end result, but Democrats have for decades believed that the end justifies the means.
Am I a bad person for wishing some of these people would just f-ing drop dead?
Posted by: roger at December 2, 2004 9:57 AMJust an aside, the total number of votes cast was just over 2.8 million, not 900,000.
