Last fall, Rockies pitcher Denny Neagle was charged with DUI after an accident where he allegedly hit someone from behind.
A few days ago, Neagle was caught with a prostitute, and the Rockies promptly cut him from the team.
Maybe my priorities are misplaced, but it seems to me that driving under the influence is more serious than paying someone for sex.
(Hat tip to Neal)
I understand your point - but the Rockies clearly have a PR disaster on their hands. I mean, the DUI is almost expected from an athlete these days. But seriously, what kind of message (short of LOSER) does it send to the kids when your professional athletes need to pay for sex.
Aren't women supposed to be throwing themselves at these guys??
A couple of points. First, perhaps the Rockies were worried about Neagle passing the clap around the clubhouse. Secondly, I'd heard a comment attributed to Heidi Fleiss about Charley Sheen, one of her best clients. She said, "He doesn't pay girls for the sex. He pays them to leave afterwards." Think about this, how much cheaper would it have been for Kobe Bryant to spend $1000 on a girl for the night instead of trying to get laid for "free"?
