The story goes something like this. A school in Texas is raffling a deer rifle to raise money to build a fence around the school. The anti-gun media outlet MSNBC is shocked, I say, shocked that such a thing would be allowed. So, they interview a local congresswoman and try to goad her into admitting that raffling a deer rifle is a bad idea. During the spit screen interview (which Kevin Baker painstakingly transcribed), they keep flashing up photos of evil scary looking "assault weapons" (MACs, UZIs, AR-15s and the like), followed closely by pictures of the kiddies in a lame attempt to lead your brain to a simple association.
That MSNBC is anti-gun comes as no surprise. I chronicled the anti-gun bias of their "Guns in America" resource page (which was only just recently removed) more than two years ago. Kudos to Kevin Baker for keeping the pressure on them.
MSNBC, The VPC and The Brady Campaign are all shameless propagandists. This is just another example of the concerted effort of the anti-gun lobby to distort and fabricate a "shocking story" where there is none. The formula used to produce this "journalism" is well-known and oft used by VPC and Brady in promoting their message.
Ms. Daniels, spewing forth her anti-gun message, was not able to manipulate Susanna Hupp even with the use of wholly unrelated pseudo-facts and film of what appear to be confiscated weapons. I didn't see a single weapon resembling those being raffled...hmmm...
Had Hupp known what imagery was being used to twist the story, she might not have been so pleasant in speaking with Ms. Daniels. It is quite apparent that she was upset by the repeated attempts to make her look like some kind of "Red-State knuckledragger" in need of superior liberal guidance.
As idiotic as it seems to those of us who know better, this is exactly the type of "sound byte" and visual manipulation that these propaganists use to influence public opinion, and, unfortunately, it works when allowed to be presented unchallenged. Hats off to Ravenwood and Kevin Baker for pointing these things out and providing additional forums to expose these lies and manipulations.
