The election has been certified and the electors have voted, but Kerry's hunt for hanging chads in Ohio continues. Meanwhile, the Ohio Supreme Court threw out an election challenge, on a technicality.
The complaint questioned how the actual results could show Bush winning when exit-poll interview findings on election night indicated that Kerry would win 52 percent of Ohio's presidential vote. That the mainstream media is ignoring this farce makes me think that they are trying to keep Kerry for looking dismissive and bitter like Al Gore.Without listing specific evidence, the complaint alleges that 130,656 votes for Kerry and John Edwards in 36 counties were somehow switched to count for the Bush-Cheney ticket.
While I think that Democrats may well have a legitimate beef in Ohio, at some point we run the risk of looking small, petty, and desperate. Hell, we may already be there.
IF we had solid evidence of Republican shenanigans, and IF we could present this evidence to the American public, and IF Mamie Eisenhower could fly, we might stand a chance of overturning the results in Ohio. The problem, of course, is that bitterness and suspicion of nefarious doings, along with a quarter, STILL won't buy you an eggnog latte at Starbucks.
Yes, I believe that it is entirely possible that Republicans stole Ohio. After all, they stole Florida in 2000, so it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. However, in order to make a convincing case, we're going to need a WHOLE lot more "evidence" than what we currently have....regardless of how much Bev Harris is foaming at the mouth.
There are questions in Ohio that demand answers. We deserve to get those answers, but will it ultimately change the result of the election? Doubtful. We Democrats may just have to get used to the idea that we lost this one because we couldn't see our way clear to nominate anyone but the exceedingly mediocre John Kerry.
Posted by: Jack Cluth at December 17, 2004 8:15 AMWith all due respect Jack, how, exactly, did the Republicans steal Florida in 2000?
There were numerous recounts by a variety of groups (including left-leaning media outfits) and all of them showed Bush winning.
The entire "stolen election" mantra has been repeated so many times by the left, that in their minds it has become "fact," even though all the evidence points to the contrary.

In all the time I've been voting (twenty years) I've been approached for an exit poll exactly ONCE.
Depending on the location of the polling place and the hour that the people are stopped by surveyors, you can skew the results in any number of directions.
Exit polls as a reliable gauge for the overall results? HA!
Posted by: Da Goddess at December 18, 2004 4:41 AMI certainly wouldn't think that they are more accurate than oh, I dunno, counting the votes.

Based on what????????????? Exit polls aren't evidence. Come up with one solid piece of evidence other than your feelings.
'There are questions in Ohio that demand answers.'
The number one being why people are wasting their time and money on a recount that's outside the margin of error and provisional ballots.
