If you think putting your safety in the hands of a burglar alarm is a good idea, think again.
Police in a prosperous Californian city near San Francisco will begin ignoring most burglar alarms, prompted by too many false alarms and too little money.Remember, Police Officers are able to prevent only about 5% of crime. The other 95% the police are simply investigating after the fact and filling out reports. In fact, they can't even be held responsible for refusing to assist you. Food for thought.Fremont police said the overwhelming majority of warning signals they receive are false alarms that cost the city $600,000 a year. Because of budget cuts, starting next month they will only respond if they have additional verification, such as a video feed of a crime occurring or a witness report.
If you are being robbed, and are unarmed, you might as well order a pizza than call 911; it will get there faster, and the pizza guy might be armed....
Posted by: Robert Garrard at January 31, 2005 7:39 PMWhich pizza chain was it that has a corporate policy against deliverypeople carrying guns, and recently fired one after he defended himself against a robber? If your plan for home defense involves calling for pizza, better find out.
Seriously, there are many neighborhoods where people will call the fire department instead of the police. The firemen will get there faster - and if their sirens don't scare off the bad guys, at least the police will come when they call.

Good point; also I imagine a bunch of guys rushing in carrying axes might tend to make a would-be robber a bit nervous.....LOL
