As you can see we have undergone radical changes here at Ravenwood's Universe. Thanks to Kathy at Moxie Design Studios for having the patience to work with me and come up with this awesome new design.
She is still finishing up construction on the new design, so please be patient. There may be some intermittant problems or changes but rest assured, they are being worked.
If you are afraid of change and want to revert back to the "Classic" look and feel, just use the skin selector on the left hand side.
I really like the new design because, uh, you know, I can read it now. Without having to select the text to get a flat background behind it, I mean. Sometimes I think about doing something fancier with my site, and then decide that I would be better off improving the words on the page than the pictures behind it.
Posted by: Phelps at February 9, 2005 3:13 PMHey this is great. We even get stars in the background in the comments box. Kewl! It is easier to read too.
I like how the 'Universe' theme works. Very nice. We will be seeing wild rollover buttons and other cool Dreamweaver/Fireworks graphics soon?
Posted by: Drew at February 9, 2005 3:29 PMI like it, but instead of the fake stars repeating the pattern every couple of inches, how hard would it be to use one of the Hubble deep field shots as a background? I think that would be even better.
Posted by: Kingslasher at February 9, 2005 3:30 PMNot all that hard Kingslasher, and its a cool idea, but it could get complicated. He is using a common background graphic for most of the cells in his table layout. That minimizes the storage size needed and also helps the page load faster.
I noticed that when using the Text Zoom feature in Netscape that the Skin and Archive pulldowns intrude a little into the main text area. No biggy really.
I also can't seem to find the email contact anymore; instead we now have a feedback form. Perhaps this is better.
I am happy to see no javascripting going on. I love the stuff myself, but I know that many people have it disabled for security reasons ... so not using it is a pretty good idea.
Overall I think the site came out great. I wonder how much he paid for this (coming up with the idea and the design is the real cost. The coding is pretty straightforward).
I've got the deep field as my desktop right now, and it is really too busy to use behind text.
Posted by: Phelps at February 9, 2005 4:39 PMOK, which direction is The Milky Way from here?
Spock, is it really you?
Nice job, Rave-site looks great!
Posted by: Steve Scudder at February 9, 2005 4:41 PMJust Damn! After three years, I about fell over. Very Nice.
Posted by: Dax Montana at February 9, 2005 6:50 PMSweet Man...I really like the new layout.
Posted by: Tazteck at February 9, 2005 8:53 PMI'll stick with the classic, but THANKS for asking.
Posted by: DaveJ at February 10, 2005 3:34 AMIt's cool looking, but harder for me to read. I think I'll give it a couple days tbefore I change to the classic look - I may get used to it by then.
Posted by: bogie at February 10, 2005 4:22 AMAs long as the witty posts keep rolling, it's ALL GOOD!
Nice Universe you live in!
