San Francisco officials are pushing for a citywide handgun ban to cut down on crime. It comes up as a ballot initiative this fall. In the meantime, the San Francisco Mayor wants to post firemen on street corners in high crime areas, in hopes that criminals will be deterred.
No word yet on whether or not the firemen will be armed, but if I were a San Francisco fireman, I wouldn't carry a lot of cash to work.
(And with firemen busy fighting crime, mailmen will be enlisted to fight fires.)
I thought everyone that lived there were lovers not fighters? Guess I was wrong.

Someone must have told the Mayor that yelling "FIRE" at the top of your lungs is recommended over any other verbage while being attacked (which is true). Too bad he is confused about the role firemen would play in the actual use of such a plea for help.
While I have yet to have occasion to use the above verbal technique, I would have to say that my gun would be yelling "FIRE" for me. ;^)

Posted by: DaveJ at March 12, 2005 5:06 PMHopefully, they'll at least let them carry those big-ass axes with them.
Is there some sort of weird radiation coming out of the San Andreas fault and causing brain damage? That state seems to have more dickheads and idiots than any other I've seen in my 50+ years.....
No really, Fuck Head!
Posted by: DaveJ at March 13, 2005 8:49 PMI hope this idea got squelched. In Boston a few years back, people were taking potshots at guys plowing the streets, who knows why.
