A letter from the Moncton Hospital to a New Brunswick heart patient in need of an electrocardiogram said the appointment would be in three months. It added: "If the person named on this computer-generated letter is deceased, please accept our sincere apologies."Contrast this with the United States. I was sick pretty bad this weekend, so yesterday I called the doctor to make an appointment. Despite my regular doctor being on vacation, they are seeing me this afternoon.
UPDATE: You have to love private medicine. Appointment at 3:45, out by 4:15. I grew up using Navy witch doctors, who once kept me waiting 6 hours for a simple physical, so I'm still not quite used to such efficiency.
Best wishes; hope you get feeling better soon.
Posted by: Robert Garrard at March 22, 2005 2:19 PMWe will remember these days fondly as "the good old days" of medicine. When the government takes over, and Hillary is determined that they will, all medicine will be restricted. Of course, Congress will have their own system, and it will be private; count on it. The rest of us will stand in line just as they do in Canada. If we can stand that long.

Posted by: hln at March 22, 2005 8:43 PMCouldn't agree more - socialized medicine sucks!
Here they try to force free flu shots on us - which I don't want or NEED - but we have to pay to get our eyes checked - I mean over and above what we are already paying in our taxes and now in re-instated mandatory health care premiums.
I am not elderly, I have a strong immune system - I don't need their flu shot poison - my eyesight is more important to me.
BUT we are restricted from seeking private health care. I used to think I lived in a free country but it turned out to be a dream and I woke up to a nightmare.

Because many don't have or can't get in to see their family physician they run to hospital emergency departments with their runny noses.
When you have a real emergency, i.e. I once accidentally sprayed something in my eye (don't ask) - went to emergency and was treated immediately - no waiting with the snifflers!
Emergencies like broken limbs, eye injuries, etc. get prompt treatment - chronic life threatening issues - people wait and wait and wait...
