If the Swimsuit Edition of Sports Illustrated comes out in February, why is CNN still pandering it in April? And what's more, why is it consistently one of the top two "sports" headlines on the CNN main page?
I enjoy ogling the female body as much as the next guy, but it's hardly the second most important sporting news story of the day.
The damn book stays on sale until May; they're going to pimp it every chance they can between now and then.

I don't know about lowest common denominator. The LCD tends to be large, not small, eg. the LCD of 9 and 12 is 36.

Mathmatically you are correct. But denominators are parts of fractions, so a high denominator means a smaller number. 1/36 is smaller than 1/9 and 1/12.
But setting all geekiness aside and speaking in the realm of entertainment, Bartleby defines the lowest common denominator as "a lowering of quality resulting from a desire to find common ground for many people".
Posted by: Ravenwood at April 2, 2005 2:20 PMIf that were the explanation, it would be greatest common denominator, since 1/72 is smaller and also common. 36 as a number is least, but not particularly small.
I think it's a confusion with least common divisor.
