Following the Pope's death, flags all across the globe were lowered to half staff. But in Godless France, naturally the pagans are whining.
"Let the Christians pay tribute to the head of their church, it's a private matter," [Senior Green Party Member Yves Contassot] told France Inter radio."Today, we have a government and a head of state who, clearly, for political reasons, are trying to take advantage of an issue that is a private matter," he said.
Lowering of flags on all state buildings was "totally out of place and at the limit of legality."
One question: it is French policy to lower the flags on the death of a head of state? Because regardless of his religious functions, he was the head of state for Vatican City, a sovreign entity.
Are ALL pagans idiots?

Posted by: Talon at April 5, 2005 2:20 PMThen again, does anyone really give a rat's ass what the French think?
The only decent things that come out of there is cognac and a couple of cheeses...
Why are you insulting pagans? =p
My GF is a Wiccan and she has no prob with the Pope. Reading the article it sounds like a 'political' issue..not a 'religious' one.

I agree; the Pope deserves a certain amount of respect as a political figure and head of a small, but important state, Vatican City. If the Pope had been from France, you can bet they would be acting different.
