Earlier this month, my windshield fell victim to gun violence. It was replaced a week ago Friday, and within a week the new one is ruined. I am contemplating suing the Commonwealth of Virginia for their failure to maintain their portion of the Capitol Beltway. The construction zone that I have to drive through every day is filled with road hazard o' plenty. Usually the debris is large and it is easy to swerve and miss it. But the tiny rocks and pebbles that are left behind are murder on windshields.
This goes beyond rock chip. I have a full blown crack that stretches to two sides of the windshield. I spoke to the guy that put it in and was basically told 'tough luck'. I could sense his deep admiration for the Commonwealth for providing him with such good business.
So, he's going to try his best to "work me a deal", but it looks like I'm on the hook for another complete windshield replacement. My insurance deductable is nearly half the cost of the replacement, so last time I didn't feel it was necessary to file a claim. But this windshield a week bullshit cannot go on.
Words cannot express my irritation.
Kinda reminds me of shitty January/February 2004
Dad dies of heart attack
Week later - Get rear-ended, wreck dad's car
Week later - Fuel filter in my car gets clogged, goes into shop
3 days later -Man gets mad at shop owner, uses tires to spray rocks at shop, rock takes out my windshield. (His ass was lucky I didn't nail him with a felony.)
Some time in all this I asked out a girl I knew for years, turned down flat.
There's more but I don't recall....
Posted by: Rhett at April 27, 2005 3:40 PMHave you considered (1) avoiding the beltway, (2) slugging, or (3) public transportation?
Granted, the DC area metro totally stinks, but if you've got a metro stop near where you work, it sure beats replacing damaged car parts--especially when you consider the employer contribution to commuting costs.
E-mail me if you'd like some commuting advice--I've been in the area for nearly 30 yrs.
Posted by: Lornkanaga at April 29, 2005 11:09 AMThe problem with that plan is that I have a cross town commute from Springfield/Franconia area to Dunn Loring. Riding Metro would require taking the Blue Line all the way into Arlington (40 minutes) and then transferring and taking the Orange Line out to Dunn Loring (40 minutes).
That turns my 20 minute drive (10 without traffic) into an hour and a half commute from hell.
I could avoid the beltway by taking the backroads through people's neighborhoods, but that adds at least 15 minutes onto the commute.
