Wishing everyone a happy Memorial Day!

This is the long awaited World War II Memorial.
This gentleman is a Filipino WWII veteran. He was kind enough to pose for a photograph, and snapped a salute for me. Afterward, he actually thanked me and all of America for liberating the Philippines during World War II. I was dumbfounded.
I tried to get his entire flag in the picture, but it required backing up so far that it would be hard to see him. Plus I wasn't sure how long he would hold the salute, and I risked losing the Lincoln Memorial in the background.
This is the Korean War Memorial. This photo is a reflection of the memorial off the granite walls. I thought it was an interesting look, and the lighting was perfect.
Here is a more traditional view of the Korean War Memorial.
Nice photos, thanks for posting them! The Filipino veteran was of course my favorite - but they all have cemented my resolve to visit sometime this week, while my in-laws are in town (I live in Springfield).
Happy Memorial Day to you too!
Posted by: daltec at May 27, 2005 11:27 AMInteresting pictures; especially the Korean War monument.
My dad almost had to go to Korea, and an old (no pun intended) friend of ours was in the Marines in the Pacific during WWII, and was at Chosin during the Korean War.
I originally posted them back in September, and not one person commented on them.

Posted by: Robert Garrard at May 27, 2005 2:07 PMThe emotions of the Filipino soldier are the same as the many residents of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianias Islands. Americans all, who have never forgotten liberation.
I've spent some time in Guam and CNMI. The American flag flies there and, in the words of the Pacif Daily News, "These colors don't run."
Posted by: Tom at May 27, 2005 4:28 PMI went to your site today as I usually do & find no

RVD,
Assuming your browser is set to view images, it sounds like you were mistakenly receiving a 403 error. The error states that you may be receiving it because "you have been banned, you are a spammer, you have hotlinked an image, or you are coming to this site from a banned referrer URL."
The message is meant to be advisory, and not accusatory.
As for "legal reprocussions", I have no legal obligation to provide you with content. If you wish to file suit, please take it up with my lawyer.
Posted by: Ravenwood at May 31, 2005 7:50 PMROTFLMAO! I can't even imagine when a "legally obligation to give you my message" case goes to court. Any judge worth his salt who passed the bar wouldn't rule against a webmaster in blocking access to the public.
