A Marine Harrier jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in Arizona. The pilot ejected to safety and nobody was seriously hurt, but this caught my eye:
The jet was carrying four 500-pound bombs and 300 rounds of 25-millimeter ammunition, none of which exploded.Had this been a Buick, and had this happend on any number of prime time TV shows, it would have exploded 2 or 3 times.
It looks like Toonces finally finished flight school...

Morgan Reynolds has already concluded it was not an airplane that crashed...
OK, who took my tinfoil hat?!
Posted by: Steve Scudder at June 17, 2005 3:21 PMModern explosives are pretty hard to set off with anything except the proper detonator, and our bombs are designed so the detonator is physically separated from the explosive until it arms after release from the airplane. There's lots to fear if a warbird crashes into your neighborhood - tons of metal traveling at high velocity, and tons of burning jet fuel splashed around - but the bombs probably won't go boom.
