Here's what happens when you elect a dentist to public office.
Some grade school students will have to visit the dentist if they want to collect their end-of-year report cards, under an Illinois law that goes into effect Friday.Nobody doubts the benefit of good oral hygiene. But forcing people to go to the dentist sounds like cruel and unusual punishment.School officials already require students of certain ages to prove they've received vaccinations and general health screenings. But now students attending kindergarten, second and sixth grades would be required to undergo dental checkups.

But what if you are a D and F student, would you really want you report card?

Posted by: Pasty at June 29, 2005 11:59 AMI never went to a dentist until I was 16. I never had any problems until I joined the Marine Corps and ended up going to the field for weeks at a time. You would be amazed how unconcerned you are about brushing your teeth when you haven't slept in 37 hours. Needless to say, I didn't get a cavity until I was 19 or 20, and now I have a filling. Free medical isn't worth a damn, but our dental techs were alway very professional.
My family has always been poor. I'll bet that if they'd tried this shit when I was a kid, my parents would simply assume that my report card was good, unless the school told them otherwise. I didn't get special treatment for good grades, only bad ones. So, in a sense, it's very advantageous for the kids to be able to come home and say "Uhh, they wouldn't give me my report card because my dental records weren't up to date." Which could be total bullshit, but it keeps the parents from asking questions if the awnser they get is "You'll have to spend several hundred dollars if you want to know that your child is doing badly in school."
Hey, it could have been worse; what if a proctologist had been elected instead....?
