The good news for D.C. property owners is that Councilman Kwame R. Brown (D-At Large), who compared smokers to murderers, withdrew his emergency proposal for a smoking ban because of lack of support. The bad news is that it lacked support only because the anti's thought it didn't go far enough. Even Brown expressed glee over the lack of support for his bill:
"I am so excited I don't know what to do with myself," Brown said after withdrawing the bill. "Today's a great day. I'm excited, having so many colleagues to say no, no, no, no to this emergency. The reason I'm happy is because we all agree that we don't want something to be limited to the dining room only."Future bans will likely include the living room and bedroom too.
