Betta fish have evolved to live in shallow oxygen depleted water, with very little personal space. The resiliance of the fish has made it a popular choice for novelty aquariums like tiny desktop boxes or small glass vases. That, and an artist who put the fish in old lightbulbs filled with water, has Peta seeing red.
"Animals in captivity certainly suffer," [Laura Brown, who manages PETA's Domestic Animals and Wildlife Department] said. "We've seen betta fish displayed in many hideous ways. No matter how small and pretty they are, they should not be used for decoration."Maybe with some butter and tartar sauce...

I love how these people presume to know things such as how much a fish suffers. How do they know that it even has the cognition and physical capability to suffer, or that it isn't actually quite happy in its small, but entirely predator-free environment?
Besides, considering the adopted-to- whacked ratio of PETA animals, I'd say that any hint of credibility they ever had has already been humanely euthanized.

Naw, the lack of physical activity makes them taste pretty nasty.
BTW, I sectioned up 15gal tank and put a Betta in each of the three sections. After one jumped from his section to kill his neighbor, I realized that was a bad idea.
