I saw "The Island" on Wednesday, and was quite impressed. It's a great scifi film, and I liked it much better than "War of the Worlds". It's not a remake, or a sequel, or a warmed over 70's sitcom reject. It's a futuristic movie that reminded me a lot of "Logan's Run".
Sadly though, the movie appears destined for financial failure most likely because of lack of marketing. (link has some spoilers)
I had been wanting to see it and almost missed it. Someone sent me a link to the trailer, which jarred my memory that it was something I'd been wanting to see. Even then I had to check IMDb just to find out that it was already playing in theaters.
The lack of marketing savvy is astonishing.
Now that you mention it, it was an awful lot like "Logan's Run". It was still a good flick an definately not a remake, though. I found it on yahoo movies, but I doubt too many people had heard about it before it's release. Pity.

The thing is, the premise is preposterous.
EVERYONE knows that you lobotomize the spare parts clones before decanting them from the cloning tank.
Posted by: geekWithA.45 at August 5, 2005 3:37 PMNot a remake, are you sure? Have you ever seen "Clonus - The Parts Horror" on MST3K? Haven't seen "The Island" but the preview is dead on.
Posted by: jdhays at August 5, 2005 8:23 PMUndermarketed? A month ago I couldn't go one commecrial break without seeing at least one, and sometimes two, commercials for the movie. One of the ones shown constantly was at least a minute and a half long (closer to two) and was kind of a "behind the scenes" type of ad. Very unusual for a commercial I thought.
We must watch different channels.
