Spamlookup and MT-Moderate

I installed Spamlookup last week, which was supposed to help moderate trackbacks that do not originate from their own server. This snags most spam trackbacks, because they are usually sent from bots and not the original web site. Unfortunately, it also blocks trackbacks from blogspot. (Because blogspot trackbacks are usually sent via haloscan or some other third party provider.)

It was set to moderate, which means they are submitted for approval and will hit the site after I say it's okay, but the moderate function didn't seem to work. Indeed, a few blogspot trackbacks were outright blocked this week.

The Spamlookup plugin was programmed to work with MT-moderate plugin, but the two didn't seem to work together at all. I checked through the documentation, and the release notes say that Spamlookup works with MT-moderate 1.0. I had installed the latest version of MT-moderate which was 1.1.2, so I figured maybe it was the newest version that was throwing it off. I hit the download page, and SWAG'd the filename for 1.1.0.

I guessed right and voila. By downgrading to Version 1.1.0, I was able to get the two plugins to work together, so now Blogspot trackbacks should be moderated instead of being completely blocked. Those of you sending pings from blogspot will not see them show up immediately, but after I hit the 'approve' button, they'll be posted straight away.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Comments

Off topic, I know, but:
Is it actually neccessary to start a blog in order to leave a comment at blogspot sites? I have given up trying, but the first few times I tried to post a comment at one of the 'new' free blogspot sites, the process of registering to comment included creating my own blog.
I asked the same question by email of two siteowners and they both suggested I start my own blog (It's fun!) without answering whether or not it was possible to circumvent that ridiculous requirement.
I notice some blogspot sites actually use a typekey registration, but I don't know if that is an add on or waht. Any experience or insight with this?
Thanks.

You got me on that one. I used to use blogger, so I haven't had any issue with having to sign up a new account just to post comments. It seems rediculous tho.

As for typekey, that's a seperate thing. You can sign up for typekey here.

Thanks. I'm already signed up with Typekey. Very convenient.
Maybe I have the name of the system wrong. All I know is that when you try to comment on these websites, they ask for name/password and then when you try to register you are sent to this location:
http://www.blogger.com/start
In order to register for a password to comment, you must create a blog.

The blogger pages are always very simple and similar looking and often have minimal or zero "about us" info. Very cheap looking, which makes sense if it is free.

I probably have misidentified the blogger system which means I have wasted your time, but thanks for replying. If anyone else out there recognizes the system and can answer the question about registering, I would appreciate it.

Thanks again.
