Colombian officials have jailed a cow for causing traffic accidents. That's right, a cow.
A cow has been put in prison after it was blamed for a road accident in Colombia. The cow was wandering along a road in Giron when was hit by a woman on a motorcycle.
The woman was not badly hurt but police decided the cow was a danger and 'arrested' it.
Officers were unable to find out who owns the [cow] and are keeping it in the town's prison.
A police spokesman said: "If it was a person who caused the accident, he or she would be behind bars, so why not a cow?"

If something was lost in translation and "prison" meant "dinner plate" then this makes perfect sense. Otherwise someone's a few fries short of a happy meal.

Indeed, there are cases from the Middle Ages when animals were held criminally liable and, for instance, executed for kicking a farmer to death. (If it was a cow, execution to be followed by a big meal at the lord's castle, of course.) And in France, there's a story about a dog that turned hostile to one of the neighbors after his master was murdered - so they figured the dog was making an accusation and held a trial by combat, dog against man.
