Kevin Baker points to a story that claims that some of the Hurricane Katrina evacuees who are being dragged from their homes kicking and screaming are being treated like prisoners. (emphasis in original)
The occupants of the camp cannot leave the camp for any reason. If they leave the camp they may never return. They will be issued FEMA identification cards and "a sum of money" and they will remain within the camp for the next 5 months. The whole description reads like it's an internment camp. A spokesman from the Oklahoma State Dept of Health rebuts the claim, however, and I must admit that it doesn't seem very plausible.
The rebuttal that they can't let anyone leave because their medical status is unknown is a non starter.
There's 300 million people in this country, and they don't know the medical status of any of them.
Shall we be required to stay in our homes until being medically released every morning?
Thought not.
I agree it doesn't seem plausible. We have heard a lot of whacky, ultimately untrue, stories out of NO lately.
My favorite, by far, is the "internationally respected" reparations panhandle guy, Randall Robinson, going off about blacks resorting to human stew pots a mere few days into the crisis. There's a statement that will stick to your name like glue.
LOL! Don't give them any ideas.
