CNN reports that most Americans polled think that the United States will lose the Iraq War.
Only 21 percent said the United States definitely would win the war in Iraq, which began when a U.S.-led coalition invaded in 2003 to topple Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Another 22 percent said they thought the United States probably would win.Maybe I just don't get it, but I thought we had already won the Iraq War. We toppled Saddam Hussein, found some of his weapons of mass destruction, and helped the Iraqis set up a form of representative government. Maybe I'm just too much of an optimist.Twenty percent of respondents said the United States was capable of winning in Iraq -- but probably would not. And 34 percent said they considered the war unwinnable.
We are facing a lot of terrorism in Iraq, which is proving to be hard to eradicate. I think that part of the secret to winning against the terrorists is to help Iraq secure her borders and prevent foreign nationals from importing and breeding terror.

I agree on securing the boarders. I dont think they have the man power to secure them.

Posted by: Sgt Fluffy at September 23, 2005 9:04 AMTo quote Tom Bevan, "There's nothing quite like getting your enemy's propaganda served up unfiltered in a major American daily newspaper."
Make that, nearly all American newspapers. And CNN, NBC, ABC, and CBS.
Of course the majority is convinced we'll lose. It's another Vietnam! Haven't you been paying attention?

The loonies keep sneaking across and then either they mess with our troops and get killed at about a 100-1 ratio, or they run into Iraqi security first and get killed. It would be much worse for us if these loonies were trying to sneak into the USA and blow things up here, or into other countries where they could attack American civilians.
OTOH, it's bad for the Iraqis... I've heard some stories of Iraqi civilians eliminating terrorist nests themselves rather than waiting around for US or other troops to show up. If that idea spreads, manpower to secure the borders isn't going to be an issue.
Posted by: markm at September 23, 2005 10:45 AMNever, ever believe any poll put out by CNN. Anybody who is paying any attention at all can see that Wolf and co. are shilling for the Clintons.
Their push-polls are junk. They report all the bad news all the time to drive public opinion then word their polls in a way that their preselected mostly Democratic respondents can reply only in one way, anti-Bush. We know who they are and what they do.
