Hey, it worked for the Chicoms.
A Boulder City woman who pleaded no contest to possession of six marijuana plants could lose her house over the case. The defendent is pleading no contest to a misdemeanor, but the city wants to seize her home, which is estimated to have $300,000 worth of equity. That's quite a way to make an example out of someone.Officials in the small town, which prides itself on being the only community in the state that doesn't allow gambling, said their move to seize Cynthia Warren's home is intended to send a message that drugs won't be tolerated in Boulder City.
Honestly, it's stuff like this that ultimately caused me to change my mind about the whole War on Drugs. These are just a few marijuana plants, folks. Nothing to destroy someone's life over.
Hey, I refuse to get licenses for my 2 dogs - perhaps the county should seize my truck as compensation?
After reading the article, I think it is pretty clear that she wasn't exactly the model homeowner, with her property reportedly falling into disrepair. I think the city was just excited to find some reason to seize the house, regardless of whether or not the issue was drug-related.
Frankly, that must be the case, since the City Attorney, Dave Olsen, "pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge in 2004" and presumably didn't lose his house.

Posted by: screaming eagle at September 30, 2005 9:57 AMIsn't Boulder one of those enlightened bastions of liberal thinking? I would think the council would be applauding her attitude toward marijuana.
